Description4 valves, partly compensating. Technical description: Silver-plated brass. `Dictor' system: 3rd valve compensating with respect to 4th only, 3rd valve lowers by 3 semitones without 4th valve and by 4 semitones with 4th valve. As inscription implies, D₂ is fingered 412, C♯₂ is fingered 43. 2 water-keys. Fitting for music card-holder. Valve type: 4 Périnet-type valves. Repair History: Tuning-slide restored by Nicholas Perry - 22.11.87, previous lengthening for use at a lower pitch removed. Overall size: 620; bell 267. Bore: v.t.s. (1,2,3,4) 14.2; m.t.s. 16.2 - 18.4. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.9 - 12.3. Bell inscribed "The Dictor / EXCELSIOR SONOROUS / CLASS A / HAWKES & SON / Denman Street / Piccadilly Circus / LONDON / 44368" with two diagrams: "4 / 3" / treble clef and D#3 / "D#"; "4 / 3" / bass clef and C#2 / "C#"; valve casings inscribed "18", "17 / HAWKES & SON / LONDON / 3", " 16"; caps of valve pistons and stems of valve touchpieces inscribed "18", " 17", "16"; 4th valve casing inscribed "10" and "HAWKES & SON / LONDON / 2" along casing; cap of 4th valve piston inscribed "17". 4th valve touchpiece missing.
