DescriptionTechnical description: Silver-plated brass. Leadpipe enters 3rd valve casing at the right; 3rd valve loop leaves from front and returns to 30° left of front; bellpipe exits 1st valve casing at 30° left of back. With two water-keys with parallel touchpieces. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves; top-sprung with spring outside stem, alignment by key on piston. Repair History: Tuning-slide legs extended to lower pitch. Maker: Boosey and Co. London. 1899. Serial number: instrument 53692; valves 45116. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was "Bb cornet" Model A5 made by Henry in a batch of 12. Overall size: 308; bell 121. Bore: instrument body at c 50mm from shank/crook receiver (local minimum bore) 10.0; m.t.s. at c 284mm from shank/crook receiver, tuning slide bore 11.6; v.t.s.(1,2,3) 11.6. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: Shank/crook receiver taper 11.8 11.0. Inscribed on bell "CLASS A" / trumpet and banner trademark / "LIGHT VALVE / BOOSEY & CO / MAKERS / 295 REGENT STREET / LONDON / 53692"; on valves "19", "20 / 45116", "21"; on valve bottom caps "19", "20", "21". 1st valve touchpiece and top cap missing; shank(s) missing. Solder broken on stay which is also mount for the double water keys. Bell somewhat crumpled, but not cracked. Tuning slide legs extended to lower pitch. |
