DescriptionTechnical description: Brass; no bore expansion in bell section bow; flat bell-stay. No stockings, tuning-slide, or water-key. Main slide allows 5 positions. Overall size: 516; bell 106. Sounding length: minimum 1241. Bore: at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore), 10.33; descending slide, 10.5; ascending slide, 10.6; at c 206mm from bell end, 14.95; at 11.2mm from bell end, 74.6. B = 0.76. Bell cutoff = 1400 Hz. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.2 - 10.5. Usable pitch: Plays slightly below A⁴ = 440 Hz with associated mouthpiece (0639). Given with and possibly formerly used with mouthpiece (639). Signature marks: Inscribed on garland "Tuba mirum spargens sonum"; and on side of bell with heraldic bird-dragon on striped pole, holding spear in beak. Decoration: stamped bell garland.
