DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood with brass keys and ivory ferrules. Six pieces: mouthpiece [probably not original], barrel, upper section, middle section for the fingers of the right hand, lower section with keys, bell. Mouthpiece cocus; barrel high-waisted, with two ivory ferrules, tapered and bulbous. Upper section: speaker straight, its liner projecting into bore; blocks had been strengthened with pins. Middle section: wide ivory ferrule, no thumb rest. Lower section: levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell-shaped swelling. Bell widely flared with narrow ivory rim: ferrules ivory, half-round on bell and lower section. Leaf springs. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T. L3: T. L4: E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; trill key for throat A-B♮. R2: T. R3: T. R4: T; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keyhead type: flat square. Keymount type: blocks, swelling. By shrinking process the wood of the upper section has warped. The unstamped barrel seems to be a modern replacement: its bore is much cleaner than the other wood and its lower ferrule is of different material to the upper. All keys have been re-padded with leather and given corks to eliminate rattles. Current ownership: Gift of E. Planas, 1990. |
