DescriptionThis violin has a soundboard of spruce; back, ribs, scroll, neck, and endbutton of sycamore; fingerboard, tailpiece and tail-gut protector of ebony; pegs of boxwood. Golden varnish. Soundboard grain of variable width - closer in centre, wider at edges. Painted purfling. Darker colour and some damage where the chin rests against the soundboard. Lower bouts covered by a single rib. Good deep figure on the two piece back, figure up towards the top in the centre, down at the edges. Some damage on the back where the shoulder has rubbed against the body of the instrument. Scroll and neck of good quality wood like the back.
Measurements: Neck length 124; fingerboard length 247, width at nut 22.7, at bottom 40.2. Soundboard arch 14mm; back arch 14.5mm.
Stamped on the back at the top "J SANDY / ALYTH".
