DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 5 sections; silver keys and 2 cutters; ivory ferrules, mouthpiece and studs; left-hand pipe has 6 finger-holes (top one containing ebony plug) plus thumb-hole, and keys for D and D♯; right-hand pipe has 4 finger-holes, and keys for C (thumb, with ebony plug in key-hole), B and D♯; vent-hole at foot of each pipe on keymount; two-part wind-cap; brass pins through body of head section.
Keymount type: ring/knob.
Keyhead type: flat square, notched and chamfered.
Performance characteristics: Lowest six-finger note (LH pipe) sounds D⁵.
Usable pitch: Sounding A⁴ = c 441 Hz (c 4 cents above A⁴ = 440 Hz).
Stamped on lower part of cap "BAINBRIDGE / INVENTOR / HOLBORN / HILL / LONDON / PATENT"; stamped on head section with crown and "BAINBRIDGE / & WOOD / 35 / HOLBORN / HILL / LONDON / PATENT", the `& WOOD' upside-down; each pipe stamped with note names and numbers by respective finger-holes; note names stamped by keyheads for D (LH pipe) and C (RH pipe), the latter erroneously named "B"; wind-cap stamped "2"; "+" stamped next to LH pipe cutter. |
