DescriptionBookmatched soundboard of spruce. Dendrochronological analysis of the soundboard shows that the last growth ring on the bass side is 1800, and the last on the treble side is 1805. Soundhole 81.0mm diameter. Purfling around soundhole of nine strips (in total) of alternate walnut and ivory. Walnut edging around the soundboard with 5 pairs of ivory/walnut strips inside, which continue around the fingerboard which extends onto, and is inset into, the soundboard. Rectangular bridge of black stained walnut, 90mm long and 20mm wide, strengthened by modern brass screws. Ivory saddle. Black stained walnut floral moustachios covering all of the lower bout. Sides of light brown stained figured maple, with 10mm wide walnut edging and 19mm wide walnut piece at bottom. Ivory endpin. Back of one piece of figured maple, stained light brown, walnut edging. Heel, neck and figure-of-eight shaped head veneered with rosewood, sharp joint between the heel and neck. Fingerboard of rosewood, flush with the soundboard into which it extends, total length of rosewood fingerboard (along the centre) 426mm, total length of neck 316mm. Width of neck at nut 44.2mm, at body join 56.7mm. Brass bar frets, 0.8mm wide. Ebony nut.
