DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Original blackwood mouthpiece, socket-type, grooved for cord. Barrel with a brass tuning slide. Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a fusiform swelling. The two L4 levers are mounted in a brass saddle and marked "WOOD'S PATENT", overlapping touchpieces. C♯₄/G♯₅ mounted in lower section. All cross keys with round touchpieces. Bevelled G♯₃/E♭₅. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T; throat A♭. L3: T; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; side F₄/C₆; side trill key for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: T; cross B♮₃/F♯₅. R3: T; cross B♭₃/F♮₅; side B♮₃/F♯₅. R4: T; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keymount type: blocks, saddles, swelling. Keyhead type: flat square. Repair History: Side A/B trill and parallel F/C key in crude brass saddles, replacing broken wooden blocks. These keys are also replacements. Previous ownership: ex- William Maynard collection, 1996. Inscribed on bell with trefoil with Prince of Wales feathers / "D'ALMAINE & Co / LATE / GOULDING & D'ALMAINE / SOHO SQUARE / LONDON"; on barrel and upper section with Prince Of Wales feathers / "D'ALMAINE & Co."; on lower section and L4 keys "WOOD'S PATENT". |
