DescriptionTechnical description: End-blown notched open flute; made from phragmites reed ('ekiwuuwe'), leaf spike holes sealed with wax and aluminium foil; overwound with bands of copper wire; 4 finger-holes; pentatonic scale; largest of six sizes, 'enkologi'. Repair History: Copper wire overwinding has been removed. Overall size: 723mm. General usage of type: Instrumental performance of popular and historical songs. Used for self-entertainment, in wrestlers' ensembles, and in consorts of six different sized flutes in the royal palace (this last tradition discontinued in 1966 with the abolishing of the kingdom).
