Technical description: Blackwood with ivory ferrules and thumb-rest, and silver keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, and bell. Original named ebony mouthpiece grooved for cord. All keys mounted in wooden blocks. Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell shaped swelling.13 keys.

Keyhead type: flat round.
Keymount type: wooden blocks and swelling.
Inscribed on all pieces with double headed eagle / "S KOCH / WIEN" / star; sections also stamped "B".
(5291), (5490), and (5491) in a wooden box line with soft pale beige leather. also in box one for extra barrel for each instrument, 3 original named mouthpieces, 1 unstamped rosewood mouthpiece in a case, cord, and a key for the box.
(5291) in A, (5490) in B♭, and (5491) in C are a matched set of clarinets.
