DescriptionTechnical description: copper bowls; simple release hole at bottom of bowl; with three bracket feet terminating in knobs. With painted iron or steel counter-hoop depth 15mm. The tensioners are of iron or steel attached to the bowl by brackets with brass bolts, each tensioner has two hooks to the counter-hoop; the brass nuts have two notches, tuned by an iron or steel tuning hammer with hollow shaft and two prongs to engage with the nuts. Skin head. Signature marks: Painted in two places "WORCESTER LOCAL MILITIA" in a garter surrounding the monogram "GR". Decoration: Painted apple green with, in two places, a crown above the garter; the counter-hoop painted with red and white bands. Specific usage history: Played by Edward Croft-Murray in the 'Guild of Gentlemen Trumpeters' from 1962 to 1977. Repair History: Restored to playing condition by the Len Hunt Drum Co., 1959; the apple green re-painted matching traces of the original paint, and the heraldry slightly re-touched, between 1959 and 1963; repaired by Chas. E. Foote Ltd, October 1976; dents removed and the head replaced by Chas. E. Foote Ltd, May 1980. |
