DescriptionPossibly German early nineteenth-century portable workbox pianoforte. Compass 36 notes, F-F. Case is comprised of a rosewood veneer, masking coniferous wooden sides and base.The body has two inlaid brass u-shaped handles, one on each end. Inside it contains a detachable tray with 13 compartments of varying sizes, some of which are covered with rosewood and bone lids. On the underside of the lid there is a sunken panel that may have contained either a mirror or a painting, which is hinged in order to pop out to form a stand. |
