Technical description: English square pianoforte. Compass 68 notes, F₁ - C₇ [FF - c''''].
Double strung throughout; lowest 12 notes F₁ - E₂ are overspun strings. The action is an English action with dolly peg dampers raised by a pedal. New felts on strings and dampers, hammers appear to have original felts.
Ivory naturals, ebony accidentals, sycamore keyfronts. Each lime keylever is marked with its number written in ink just behind the keycover.
Inscription: John Broadwood and Sons. / Makers to His Majesty & the Princesses / Great Pulteney Street Golden Square. / London.

Decoration: Decorating banding, alternating between dark and light wood around perimeter of case. Molding on base of case consists of five carved bands. Fretwork cutouts over silk (originally red, now faded to off white) on either side of nameboard.
Music desk attached to the back of the nameboard and another on the lid flap. Lid flap of one single section. The lid is held open by a prop-stick on the right-hand side. Three hinges at the back, six between the lid and the flap. The keywell flap is hinged to the lid flap. |
