DescriptionTechnical description: Brass crook, two wooden sections with joint covered by a 46mm brass ferrule forming descending tube, brass U-bend, two wooden sections with joint covered by a 46mm brass ferrule formain ascending tube, brass bell with garland width 36. The crook and bell are detachable; the upper ends of the upper wooden sections are joined by a brass screw-held fitting, and the instrument can be partly disassembled with lapped tenons at the distal end of the first wooden section and at both ends of the U-bend. Tone-holes numbered from bell, key-covered unless otherwise stated: keys 1 and 2 are open-standing, giving the lowest notes B₁ and B♭₁, keys 3-10 are closed-standing. keys 1-3 on platform raised from body; keys 4-9 close toneholes with short chimneys. Brass keys with leaf springs attached to the key touchpieces. Keys 4-7 have brass key-guards. With fixture to support the instrument with the left hand on upper ascending wooden section, and with ring for sling on ferrule in middle of ascending tube.
