This is the last surviving copy of the famous protest of the Bohemian nobles against the burning of the religious reformer Jan Hus in 1415. A magnificent vellum document surrounded by the seals of the Bohemian nobility, it was acquired by theologian William Guild (1586-1657) while he was on the continent during the British civil wars. It was for many years on display at the University of Edinburgh and came to be seen as an icon of religious freedom - anticipating the Protestant reformation. It was perhaps the first star exhibit at the University.
