Biographical history | Ruth Fyfe has been an archivist with East Lothian Council since 2004. She works at the John Gray Centre in Haddington which is home to the Council’s records dating back to 1318. Before the Regional Ethnology of Scotland project started up in East Lothian in 2018 she had done a little recording work. Ruth said “The EERC East Lothian project is collecting and making accessible recordings on a scale we could only dream about and it is a brilliant project to be part of. One of the things I like most about fieldwork is the enjoyment people can find in telling and sharing their story. The personal story is so often missing from the written records we hold in our archives.” Fran is a Fifer living in Edinburgh with her husband and daughter. She originally gained a degree in Estate Management, then saw the light and, after a stint at Standard Life, went on attain a post grad in Archives & Records Management at University of Dundee. She has been an archivist at East Lothian Council for 13 years and most days can honestly say it’s her dream job. Outside of work she is a book addict with a passionate interest in politics, football and crochet. |
