This interview forms part of the Kirkcudbright Artists Remembered project. This project was active during the refurbishment of the Kirkcudbright Town hall into the Kirkcudbright Galleries centre and was undertaken as a partnership between the Kirkcudbright Harbour Cottage Trust and the EERC.
This short recording is of the notes made by fieldworker, Fiona Smith and read by volunteer, Flora McDowall. The notes are from a chat with Amy Smith, aged 94, who was born in Borgue and who worked as a housemaid at Auchengoul in Kirkcudbright when she was 14. Amy recalls a number of the artists who lived in Kirkcudbright at that time. She remembered Jessie M King particularly and remarked that Jessie had several black capes, each with a different colour lining. Her black hat would always be trimmed with a band the same colour as the cape lining.
