Interview summary | In this interview, Jim Henry (b.1905) recalls his childhood at Barholm farm and shares memories from his childhood and life. He recalls his time at Carsluith school where the teachers were Mr and Mrs McKechnie and their daughter. He also remembers that on the walk to school, which took about 45 minutes, children would join the group along the route going towards Carsluith. He recalls many of the houses and who lived where and remembers details such as: the family buying produce from the Kirkdale gardens; the shops in Carsluith; the Hannay family; the smiddy; where the Travellers stopped in the area; quarry boats and the first car in Carsluith. The family moved from Barholm to Bargrennan and he recalls droving the livestock from one place to the other. |
