Interview summary | This interview, with Mr and Mrs Kerr, of Carsluith, concentrates on Mr Kerr’s life and especially early recollections of his family farm, near Carsluith, which was run by his father (until 1925) and then by his brother. At the time of the interview, Mr Kerr was in his 70s and must therefore have been born in the late 1800s. He recalls a life where most of the farm work was done using horses and where a strict rotation system was in place for the crops. The farm usually had ‘4 and a half score sheep’ (90), a few head of cattle and grew turnips, oats and hay in rotation. Mr Kerr recalls hiring fairs, harvesting times and sheep sales. Towards the end of the recording (around 20mins) the interview is replaced by a fragment of broadcast about strathspeys and some pipe band music, probably indicating that the cassette tape had been recycled and the interview recorded over a previous recording. |
