In this interview, Isabella (aged 78) and Robin (aged 79) Mellors talk about their lives in Dunbar where they have lived for over 50 years. Isabella was originally from Stonewalls, Whitekirk and Robin was born in Bellhaven.
The couple talk about their life together and about their love for their family and for Dunbar. They recall how they first met and talk about how Dunbar has changed over the decades – remembering shops, cinemas, dancehalls and the swimming pools from the past and reflecting on the changing population more recently.
This is a wide-ranging interview and other topics covered include: Robin’s time at Dunbar Grammar school, where he was responsible (along with Mr Mason, brother of actor James Mason) for creating the school motto; some of the places Robin has worked (including the Abbey Old People’s Home and the Cottage Hospital; Dunbar Gala days; the rivalry between North Berwick and Dunbar; the post-WW2 tourist boom and travelling to Folkstone to visit family.
