| Biographical history | Martine Robertson was brought up in Newtongrange, Midlothian and has lived in Port Seton since 2003. Through becoming a member of the The Boatie Blest Rowing Club, she met with people who came from the fishing and boatbuilding industries, and became fascinated with the stories of their past lives. This coincided with becoming a student on Newbattle Abbeys Celtic Studies Course and following that up by going on to Edinburgh University to study Scottish Ethnology. Archives are amazing places, however, my great interest is to bring those voices into the open, and to turn the fieldwork I do, into various formats for performance. I had the great honour to work with Charlie Horn a D Day veteran and lifelong fisherman on the Forth and beyond. And the great good luck to work on his story with the European Ethnological Research Center [EERC], where I was encouraged and supported to take the recordings I made with Charlie, and add music, song and photographs. The end piece was a DVD, The Past is Always With Us, which was presented as a part of 2019’s Three Harbours Festival, with Charlie and the Horn family in attendance. |
