Interview summary | Biographical interview with Wilma Twidale who was born in Lochmaben (c. 1930). Wilma's father was a baker and she went to school in Lochmaben and Dumfries. When she left school, Wilma went on to study, and also teach, at the De Vere business school in Irish Street. She worked at the Royal Insurance Company in Dumfries until she married. Wilma's husband was posted to Burghead and the couple lived there for a number of years. Wilma talks about her time there and her subsequent return to Lochmaben, in 1952. She had various other jobs, and, prior to her retirement in 1992, worked for the local doctor for 22 years. She talks about her working life and her leisure interests and hobbies. Wilma particularly mentions St Margaret's Church, where she first met her husband. Her father was clerk at the Church for 50 years and the family maintained strong links. Towards the end of the interview, Wilma (assisted by her husband) recalls the names and purposes of many of the 25 shops she remembers being in Lochmaben in 1942. |
