Interview summary | Biographical interview with Helen Little (b. 1935) who was born in Dumfries. This interview focusses on Helen's training and professional life as a nurse. Helen describes her pre-training time at The Grove and also her training at the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. Helen returned to The Grove after she married and also worked in Lochmaben after her son was born. As well as sharing information about her nursing training, day-to-day routine, uniforms, accommodation, the layout of the hospital etc. Helen also shares anecdotes from her time in nursing and reflects on how training and treatments have changed over the years. Helen describes the pre-medicine treatments for Tuberculosis and talks about changes in pressure pain care and coronary thrombosis rehabilitation. Towards the end of the interview, Helen also talks about the social life surrounding working in a hospital environment and describes some of the superstitions which she recalls. |
