Interview summary | Biographical interview with Hugh Reid (aged 91) of Stranraer. In the first part of this interview Hugh shares some of his many stories and anecdotes about ghosts and supernatural occurences in the Stranraer area from his own experience or which he heard through family and neighbours. This includes the story of Dr Orgle, who lived in Stranraer and rode about in a carriage looking for victims for his experiments. At one point in the recording, Mrs Findlay, who is also present, relates supernatural stories from her own experience, including McGibney's ghost which resided in the telephone exchange. In the second part of this interview Hugh talks about his adventures as a poacher in a career which began when he was a teenager. As well as talking about the practice of poaching, Hugh relates anecdotes from his experience, reflecting that businesses were happy to buy the rabbits from the poachers because they were confident they would leave the other livestock alone. |
