Interview summary | Interview with Agnes Lamb, aged 83. Agnes talks about her early life on a farm on the edge of Stranraer called Larg. Her father trained horses and the family also grew potatoes and Agnes recalled the Irish pickers who came across to work at the potato lifting. They were often from the west coast islands and spoke Gaelic and Agnes said they were very clean and looked so smart going up to church on a Sunday. Agnes also talks about the town and how it has changed over time and remembers her trips to and from school. The Second World was is discussed. Agnes would have liked to join the WAAFs or WRENs but wasn't allowed as farm work was a reserved occupation. She talks about the restrictions during the war, especially in relation to her own marriage and to the constraints of petrol rationing. |
