In this interview Hazel talks about her life in Wanlockhead where she has spent most of her life. She lived in Leadhills until she was six and then the family took over running the old Co-op in Wanlockhead. Hazel recalls that all the village children played together when she was a child but this no longer happens and she reflects on the causes of this, discussing the changing make-up of the community and the impact of new people coming into the community.
She also describes music and entertainments in the village when she was young and talks about the games she played as a child. A significant thread of the interview is the weather and how weather patterns have changed over time. Towards the end of the interview, Hazel reflects on the suitability of staying in Wanlockhead as she gets older and feels the weather and the lack of facilities make the village quite a difficult place to stay if you were, for example, unable to drive.
