| Interview summary |
Biographical interview with architect, Antony Wolffe (b. 1920) which concentrates on his architectural career in Dumfries and Galloway, especially around his home in Gatehouse of Fleet. Antony talks about his introduction to Mrs Murray-Usher and subsequent move to the area. His participation in the survey of listed buildings in the region gave him an understanding and insight into the distinct differences parish by parish. This knowledge informed his own practice as he preferred to work with consideration of the local idiom. Other areas discussed include: the post-war development charge, the Civic Award for Precinct House in Whithorn; Rainsford Hannay (who started the dry stone dyke revival) and towerhouse renovations. Antony also discussed houses and commissions he has been involved with and references a number of architects whom he has worked with or appreciated the work of. |
