Interview summary

Biographical interview with Ann McClymont born Palnackie c.1936 in which she talks about her childhood, teaching and her life as a farmer's wife. She talks about school and using a slate for writing and counting milk bottle lids. she could remember the arrival of evacuees shortly after she started school, in 1941. She also remembered the POWs who came to work on the farm and remembered that no-one needed a car then as mobile shops came round the farm most days. When asked about marriage customs she remembered the bridegroom-to-be was often blackened by his friends. She trained as a teacher and taught for seven years before leaving the profession when she married. Changes she noticed as a teacher, from the time she was a pupil, included the ready availability of paper and books.
