Biographical history | Betty Paisley was born in the parish of Dornock in 1938. Her father was a county councillor and she recalled that took her out with him during the 1951 census. This inspired her to help in both the 1991 and 2001 events. She trained as a teacher and completed further training to work as a specialist teacher with deaf pupils. After retirement, Betty worked as a volunteer in the Dumfries Archive alongside Marion Stewart and Alison Burgess. She was also very involved with her own local community, in Collin, and was an active part of the WI, community council and two social clubs. Encouraged by Marion Stewart’s enthusiasm for an oral history archive for the area, Betty was eager to participate in the Study and made a number of recordings in 2014. |
