DescriptionThis impressive specimen of ‘Latanites maximiliani’ (De Visiani 1867), or Fossil Palm, is around 30 million years old and is the "star" of the Palm Hall of the Museum of Geology and Paleontology at the University of Padua. It is the first almost complete palm discovered in Italy. It was dedicated by De Visiani to Maximilian I (1832-1867), monarch of the Second Mexican Empire, younger brother of the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph and passionate botanist.
