Description | Various types of mandolin were popular from the start of the eighteenth century, although it is only the Neapolitan type which is still common today. All are characterised by pear-shaped backs and a small size. The decoration on this instrument is therefore limited to the fingerboard and the head finial, both of which are ivory which has been engraved and highlighted in black. Part of the C.H. Brackenbury Memorial Collection. |
