Description | The only Ruckers double-manual harpsichord to survive with its original keyboards, this is one of the most important of all keyboard instruments. Unlike most makers of double-manual harpsichords, the Ruckers family had 'unaligned' keyboards, where the 'f' key of the lower manual played the same string as the 'c; key of the upper manual. The result was that the two keyboards played at different pitches and it was, in effect, two harpsichords in the one case. The natural keys are of bone and the accidentals of bog oak. The interior decoration is block-printed paper as found on most original Ruckers instruments. Raymond Russell Collection. |
