| Description | George Cheyne studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh under Archibald Pitcairne (1652-1713). Between 1702-1703 he published several medical and mathematical tracts. In about 1702 Cheyne moved to London and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society. Cheyne obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine (from which university it is unclear) and proceeded to practise in London, though without belonging to the College of Physicians. Later in his life Cheyne became a devoted vegetarian and published treatises on diet and natural theology. |
