Description | William Bromfield received tuition from a surgeon at an early age and soon began practising on his own account. In 1741 he gave a series of lectures on anatomy and surgery which attracted a lot of attention. Bromfield later formed the plan of the Lock Hospital for the treatment of venereal disease along with Martin Madan (1725-1790), a clergyman, to which he was appointed surgeon. Bromfield was also elected one of the surgeons of St George's Hospital, London. |
