Description | John Blackall was a student of Balliol College, Oxford University where he obtained the degrees of Batchelor of Medicine (1797) and Doctor of Medicine (1801). Following this he studied medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London, and in 1797 he was selected physician to the Devon and Exeter Hospital. Blackall's reputation soon increased and he was appointed physician to St Thomas' Lunatic Asylum in 1812. The following year he published his well-known work 'Observations on the nature and Cure of Dropsies'. In 1815 he became a member of the College of Physicians. |
