Description | From 1674 Samuel Dale was an apprentice to an apothecary for eight years. In 1686 he was a practising physician and apothecary in Essex. It does not seem that he took a doctor's degree or was even a member of the Society of Apothecaries or the Royal College of Physicians. Dale's most important written work was 'Pharmacologia' which first appeared in 1693. He possessed a great knowledge of both geology and botany and used this to great effect when writing his second important book: 'The History and Antiquities of Harwich and Dovercourt'. |
