Description | William Butler acquired an outstanding reputation, although he became known for his eccentric manner and methods of treatment. In 1572 he was granted a licence by the University of Cambridge to practice physic. He was usually titled 'Doctor' although he never actually took the formal qualification of Doctor of Medicine. In 1612 he was summoned to Cambridge to attend to Henry, Prince of Wales during an illness. He also visited King Charles I in Cambridge after he had suffered a hunting accident. |
