DescriptionString instrument, painted red, carved from one piece of wood with small round resonator, narrow body tapering towards the neck, and large pegbox with semi-circular profile. The resonator is covered with hide, attached with small metal tacks. A thin wooden sheet with central keyhole-shaped cut-out encloses upper two-thirds of body, forming fingerboard and sound-table. Three notched pegs, three strings of nylon (?). Four small holes in back of neck; through two of these a loop of string is attached. Hole in centre bottom of resonator. Small scalloped bridge taped to a note wrapped with the instrument. A bow (3680) has previosly been associated with this instrument, probably due to its previous incorrect identification as a pi-wang (Tibetan bowed lute) |
