Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston; silver-plated pistons. Repair History: One leg of 2nd v.t.s. a replacement. Converted from Old Philharmonic pitch to low pitch by extending main tuning-slide, adding c 152mm to air column length. Overall size: 529; bell 276. Sounding length: minimum 2729. Bore: mouthpipe at c 40mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.8; centre of valve cluster at c 283mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 14.1; m.t.s. at c 481mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 14.1; m.t.s. at c 740mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 15.3; m.t.s. 14.1 - 15.3; 1365mm from bell end, c 25.1; c 1013mm from bell end, 35.5. B = 0.45. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 13.1 - 12.0. Inscribed on bell "THE TRIUMPH / Class A / 14596" / "BLOOD AND FIRE" within SA crest and "THE SALVATION ARMY" within banner below / "MANUFACTURED / BY THE / SALVATIONIST PUBLISHING / & SUPPLIES LTD. / JUDD ST. KINGS CROSS / LONDON / FACTORY ST. ALBANS / HERTS"; around rim of bell "IN LOVING MEMORY OF ALBERT E. SPRAKES / KILLED IN ACTION SOMME 1918 / PRESENTED BY HIS FATHER & MOTHER"; on side of valve casings and top and bottom caps "13", "14", "15"; on side of 2nd valve casing: monogram SA within laurel wreath / "14596 / 2".
