Inscribed on bell "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE DE PARIS" within ribbon and "1889" in medal hanging below; "MEDAILLE D'OR" / monogram C&C / COUESNON &CIE. / 94.RUE D'ANGOULEME / PARIS." / "93" within grenade.
General usage of type: according to Waterhouse (1993), invented and patented by François Millereau in 1883. According to Soyer (1925), this coiled form of bugle went out of use around 1890 because it was less well in tune than the folded form.
