Water-key on main tuning-slide with long connecting rod to enable it to be actuated by a button near the mouthpipe. Overall size: 785; bell 232. Sounding length: minimum without bit 2687; overall length of bit 49.5. Bore: bit at distal end (minimum bore) 10.2; instrument body at c 65mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 10.9; v.t.s. (1) bore 14.7; v.t.s. (2) bore 14.7; centre of valve cluster at c 654mm from mouthpiece receiver; v.t.s. (3) bore 15.5; v.t.s. (4) bore 17.0; m.t.s. at c 692mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 18.0; m.t.s. at c 816mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 20.0; 1344mm from bell end, c 34; c 974mm from bell end, 48. B = 0.37. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. of bit 12.3 11.3; external taper of bit 12.6 - 11.4 over taper length 32; m.r.t. of body of instrument 12.4 - 11.8. Valve type: 4 rotary valves, `Waltzenventile' mechanism with screw spring tension adjusters. Usable pitch: as modified, plays c 40 cents below 440 Hz. Decoration: Elaborate engraving with petal motif on keywork, touchpieces and valve top caps; milled pattern on bell garland. Inscribed on bell "V.F. Červený/ & Sons, / Königgrätz - Bohemia, / Europe. / Sole Agent for United States: / Louis Viták, Canton Ohio.". Small stamp which may be a lyre as maker or dealer mark on bell garland at front. Decorative features: Elaborate engraving with petal motif on keywork, touchpieces and valve top caps; milled pattern on bell garland. Repair History: The bit provided to lower pitch; spacers inserted in some of the valve tuning-slide legs to limit travel.
