According to the firm's archives [Besson stock books], the instrument was "Basse Victory Cl 1"; it was part of a batch of 4 and was numbered no later than 15 Feb 1896. Technical description: Silver-plated brass. 4-valve `Victory' system: full double with respect to 4th valve; windway runs mouthpipe - 4 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - m.t.s. - bell (4th valve not operated), or mouthpipe - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - v.t.s.- 4 - bell (4th valve operated).2 water-keys. Valve type: Périnet-type valves; valves 1, 2, 3 have very long pistons. Overall size: 628; bell 273. Sounding length: minimum 2646. Bore: mouthpipe at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.35; centre of 3 valve cluster at c 428mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 14.25; m.t.s. at c 698mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 17.1 - 19.05; at 1323mm from bell end, c 25.4; at c 1028mm from bell end, 35.9.
